Computer Scientist with 25 years of Professional Experience

I’m computer scientist building upon 25 years of experience in technology-developing and technology-enabling organizations. The experience builds upon three different perspectives: research and development in industrial settings, research in academia as well as steering selected areas of the Austrian research funding landscape. This included working with IBM Software Group in Hawthorne, NY, US and the Technical University of Vienna to pursue my PhD in Computer Science on interoperability and electronic data interchange. I don’t get to publish a lot of scientific publications these days but I still enjoy discussing and writing on technical and organizational challenges these days. After my postdoc I then joined the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (bmvit, nowadays BMK) managing strategic programs for the Austrian space research landscape and being delegate at the European Commission for Copernicus - the European Earth Observation programme. This was followed by joining Kapsch TrafficCom which is a global leader in tolling and traffic management systems. I’ve then joined Anyline and taken on the role as CTO. Anyline provides mobile data capture solutions to digitize analog information present in our day-to-day lives. Today, I’m building digitalbarn to enable you in navigating uncertainty in Product & Technology developments.

Fostering alignment in challenging and often unkown terrain to ultimately keep moving forward, showing a path forward in fuzzy and ambiguous environments in a hands-on-manner, leading technology teams and enabling them to achieve their best and driving the definition and execution of selected strategic initiatives (organizationally and technically) - are to me challenges I enjoy working on.

Professional expertise from High-Performing Technology Organizations to Agriculture

Throughout my professional career I’ve acquired and applied in-depth knowledge on data modeling, electronic business document standardization, machine learning, innovation and high-performing technology organizations. The different domains where I could employ my knowledge in include earth observation, traffic management, tolling systems, optical character recognition, healthcare, public sector and agriculture. At the intersection of knowledge and domain I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to lead selected projects indicated in the following. With bmvit we initiated a national Copernicus data distribution system and an Earth Observation hackathon which resulted in positive press coverage and served as a role model across Europe. At Kapsch I was provided with the opportunity to lead an intrapreneurship endeavour to establish a deep learning (DL) ecosystem as well as build a DL-based tolling product. With Anyline I led the technology organization (develop and disseminate technology for customers and vendors, recruit and hire key talent, strengthen technical foundation, build research and development partnerships, etc.). This is also where I prepared and executed the transformation towards an Outcome-based Technology Organization operating in short-term iterations and releasing continuously. Through digitalbarn.io I’m sharing my experience and knowledge through Keynote & Public Talks, Expert Reviews, Deep Dives, Sparring Sessions, Strategic Consulting, and Building AI Factories.
